Q. Were you ever part of any school activities?
A. Huh, yeah. I actually did a lot. You know when you're more involved in after school activities then you're involved
in school. It's kinda like that. I did a lot of weird art projects. All four years I did one called Paradox. We did everything,
kinda revolves all around the arts at once. We had did a lot outside of visual arts, we acted, did scripts, wrote songs, it's
very avantgarde. So I did a lot. I did jazz band for a semester.
Q. How many bands did you form while in high school?
A. Yeah, actually Fall Out Boy started my Junior year of high school. I was in a band or another my Freshmen year. I think
we all have been in some kind of band before. Especially, Andy our drummer, he lived in Milwaukee, he would have to drive
to Chicago after school.
Q. What bands made you realize you wanted to pick up an instrument?
A. I duuno about my band members, but I liked a lot of fusion jazz and stuff. I dunno, some folk singers, like Steve Goodmen,
I liked a lot. But, um I think the big thing is that brought my band together was punk rock bands, like the Descendents, were
a big thing.
Q. Have you ever met any of your influences?
A. Yeah, the weird thing is that I liked bands that lived down the street from me. The first time I met like Luke Skywalker,
was their name, when I was 12. And they were my idol. That was like wow. I did get to meet some of them.
Q. When Fall Out Boy started out what kinds of places did you play at first?
A. Um, we played Knights of Columbus and halls. Our first one was at the DiPaulo in Chicago. Played like in diner hall.
It was really funny. We all grew up in Chicago. Smaller venues like that then this one (Axis).
Q. What was the smallest crowd you played for?
A. San Antonio, about a year ago we only played for one kid, and her dad. It was one of those things like when one person
is there, your not going you gotta put on the best show ever. That one person that actually came out, we wanted to do our
best. They seemed to enjoy it. I had the best time of my life. It's one of those things that, yeah, it could be depressing.
Q. Largest?
A. Around 2,000 at a Less Than Jake show.
Q. What was the first band you've toured with?
A. Spitalfield, a band from Chicago.
Q. What was your favorite band you've toured with?
A. Oh, I don't know. We got to tour with some good bands. It's all different for everybody. I really liked Motion City
Soundtrack. I love Spitalfield and I love Early November, they're all friends of ours. It's one of those things if we had
to pick, it would be hard to choose. Luckily they're the nicest guys. You get to know people. Like right now Dynamite Boy
and Mest, you know it's a real good bunch of guys. I would feel bad to choose.
Q. What is your day to day schedule while one tour like?
A. It's pretty routine. We get up from a hotel, we hop in a van late, we drive for hours to the club, usually wait, and
we don't sound check. Walk Around and hang out, play, pack up, got to a hotel. It's really not that exciting.
Q. What is your song writing process like?
A. The song writing process is kinda involved a lot. We started out like this punk band and so a lot of the songs you
know would be in that writing style. Sometimes, um, Pete and I would write lyrics down and take mine's and combine them. The
new batch for the next record is pretty much the same.
Q. What do you think about the kids who come out to the shows?
A. I really don't think of them as fans. I have a lot of friends all over the place. A lot of the, I've met from shows.
We're just like anybody else. I don't crave attention. I know a lot of bands and people act like "rock stars".
Q. Would you ever do TRL?
A. I dunno, if TRL would invite us, I would be happy to go.
Q. Are you excited about going to Europe?
A. I am so excited about going to Europe. I've never been outside of the country. I wanted to go to France, because I
wanted to learn to say, "Americans are so stupid and that's why I don't know what I'm saying." We're going to play
shows in Europe. That's crazy. I'm so stoked. I think it's rewarding to do something fun and going to Europe. That's awesome.
Q. Do you know how to speak any other languages?
A. I know from my girlfriend, she taught me to say in French some in endearments, sweet little nothings. The only thing
I know I'm fluent is in Chicago. I'm nervous enough in English.
Q. What do you feel about being on Warped Tour this year?
A. I haven't been to one. I'm not really that out going. I like people, I'm kinda reserved, and I'm a little guy. I was
always scared to go. I know that I would want to do was to see the Suicide Machines.
